Today, during the International Conference “Access to Sport: Sport – an Instrument for Social Inclusion”, the national campaign “The Rights of Children in Sport” was launched in partnership by Special Olympics Bulgaria, Bulgarian Tennis Federation, Bulgarian Union of Physical Education and Sport, ProSport Foundation, European Law Society and UNI Europa.
This campaign was inspired by the Joint Declaration on the Protection of Children’s Rights in Sport, signed on 8 November 2017 in Brussels, between the European social partners in the Sports Squadron – UNI Europa, the World Players Association and EASE (European Association of Employers in Sport ) – and by the IOC Consensus on the prevention of abuse and harassment (non-incidental violence in sport) and the IOC Consensus for development of the young athletes.
The Declaration for Protection of the Children’s Rights in Sport is open for signature by all Bulgarian sports federations in order to encourage debate between public authorities, sports federations, sports clubs, sports service providers, schools, municipalities and control authorities on the challenges and best practices for guaranteeing children’s rights in the field of sport. It is expected that the majority of Bulgarian sport governing bodies will sign the declaration by 1st June 2018.
On 31 May and 1 June 2018 in Sofia, Bulgaria, the European Conference “Protecting the Rights of Children in Sport” will be hosted.
More information on the campaign can be found here (in Bulgarian).
