The amalgamated Finnish Industrial Union was formed when the Finnish Metalworkers’ Union, the Industrial Union TEAM and the Woodworkers’ Union of Finland were merged, and officially started its operations on 1st January 2018. The new Industrial Union is Finland’s largest trade union within the industrial sector and represents 226,000 industrial workers within several different industries.
The Industrial Union’s highest decision-making organs are the Union Congress, the Union National Council and the Executive Committee. The Union Congress, which meets every five years, is the Industrial Union’s highest decision-making body. The Union Congress decides on the following years’ core guidelines, elects the Union National Council and the Executive Committee, and elects the leadership of the Union.
The Industrial Union’s extraordinary Union Congress, which was held in Tampere on 28-30 November 2017, elected Riku Aalto to be the President for the years 2018-2023. The First Vice-President is Turja Lehtonen, Second Vice-President is Heli Puura, and Jari Nilosaari was elected Third Vice-President.
