UNI Europa expresses deep concern over situation at National Bank of Austria

Tuesday 4 December 2018

UNI Europa, in cooperation with our Austrian affiliates at GPA-djp, has sent a letter to the Presidents of the European Central Bank and its Single Supervisory Mechanism Supervisory Board, expressing deep concern over the Austrian government’s recent decision to transfer all supervisory activities – and the 170 workers undertaking them – from the National Bank of Austria to the Financial Market Authority.

We fear such a move would have grave implications on the crucial independence of the national bank, and on the working conditions both at the bank and in the Financial Market Authority.
