The Confederation of German Trade Unions (Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund, DGB) has published the result of the 10th annual Good Work (Gute Arbeit) index, with a focus on the growing digitalisation of the world of work.
10,000 employees were asked about the spread and the impacts and effects of digitalisation on the quality of labour conditions. They were also asked to give input on whether they were able to influence the digital arrangements of their workplace.
The representative results show that the work of 82% of employees is influenced by digitalisation, for 60% to a high or very high degree. This group also reports increasing workloads and number of tasks that need to be carried out which creates more stress and health problems. Most pressing from amongst workers’ concerns are problems relating to rising employee monitoring as well as a lack of being able to input into ‘digital’ change.
