New priorities and leadership of ICT sector unions in Europe

Over the past two days, ICT union from across Europe have gathered online for the UNI Europa ICTS Conference. Workers in this sector are at the forefront of the technological changes our societies face. They are the ones experiencing the increased use of AI-driven tools at work, the automation of tasks, the restructuring of corporations and the switch to remote work.

To set the tone for these changes to be shaped by the interests of working people it is vital that they have a strong collective say. To build that say, ICT unions have agreed on three priority axes of their joint cross-border work:

  • Building trade union power in multinational companies.
  • Promoting fairness and justice in the new world of work
  • Promoting European social dialogue in the ICTS sector

The unions have elected Daniel Huegli of syndicom (Switzerland) as President of UNI Europa ICTS.

“This is a crucial moment for unions, especially in ICTS: our members are at the heart of the digital transformation. Their world of work is changing rapidly, at the same time they are the agents of change in their jobs. United as unions we have the opportunity to shape the future of ICTS and the working conditions, for a society connected through solidarity,” said Daniel.
