UNI Europa Post & Logistics calls for a swift adoption by the EU Parliament of its Report on the application of the Postal Services Directive

Ahead of the plenary debate and vote of the Report on the application of the Postal Services Directive on 14-15 September 2016, UNI Europa Post & Logistics expressed its unreserved support towards its adoption. UNI Europa highlighted some key aspects of high relevance to its members:

UNI Europa resolutely called on Member States to maintain broad and robust universal service obligations and welcomed the emphasis on the maintenance of the USO in the application report by the European Commission and the European Parliament.

UNI Europa welcomed the importance placed on ensuring a sustainable basis for high-quality universal service provision under affordable conditions and its minimum of five delivery and collection days a week for every citizen so that postal services can fulfil their social cohesion function.

UNI Europa supports the call to end unfair competition practices in the sector, to tackle ‘cherry-picking’ of profitable delivery areas and to establish a minimum floor of social and employment standards so as to ensure fair competition.

UNI Europa Post & Logistics fully backs the calls on Member States to guarantee decent working conditions, including occupational health and safety for all postal services workers, irrespective of their employment status.
