UNI Europa condemns the attack in which a blast tore through a shopping centre, killing at least 18 people, with many more still reported missing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe lives of working people cannot be reduced to collateral damage. These commerce workers have kept going through the terror of this war of aggression, many of them unable to flee. By continuing to show up to work, they are keeping civilians supplied. Targeting these essential workers and shoppers is targeting the entire civilian population. The first step to restoring peace has to be guaranteeing that working people can make a living in safety,\u201d said Oliver Roethig, Regional Secretary of UNI Europa.<\/p>\n<p>UNI Europa represents 2 million union members who work in the commerce sector. Prioritising safety for themselves and the communities they serve is consistently a top priority of these workers and their union action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a barbaric attack. Unions stand united for peace as a prerequisite for any social progress. We stand united behind the Ukrainian people.
