This Wednesday, 13th December, marks a pivotal moment as\u00a0<span lang=\"en-US\">what is expected as the final trialogue negotiation on\u00a0<\/span>the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D)\u00a0<span lang=\"en-US\">will be held, aiming to create an\u00a0<\/span>EU-wide framework for\u00a0<span lang=\"en-US\">human rights<\/span>\u00a0due diligence.<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Ahead of these negotiations, UNI Europa has joined together with other European Trade Union Federations, civil society organisations and businesses to call for the co-legislators to reach an agreement on an effective directive.\u00a0<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/media.business-humanrights.org\/media\/documents\/Multistakeholder_statement_111223.pdf\">Full statement.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The adoption of the EU directive is a critical opportunity to raise the bar for corporate accountability for respect for workers\u2019 rights across Europe and the global footprint of European companies. The statement reiterates two key points for the directive to be fit for purpose in realizing these aims. Firstly, the directive must be grounded in the risk-based approach of the international standards of the\u00a0<\/span>UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises.\u00a0<span lang=\"en-US\">Secondly, it is essential to embed meaningful involvement of trade unions, amongst other stakeholders, throughout the due diligence process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Oliver Roethig<\/span>,\u00a0<span lang=\"en-US\">Regional Secretary of<\/span>\u00a0UNI Europa, comments, \u201cThe CS3D\u00a0<span lang=\"en-US\">holds tremendous promise to change the landscape of corporate responsibility<\/span>.<span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0Co-legislators must ensure this window of opportunity does not go to waste through further delays or failing to adopt an effective directive.
