UNI Europa Finance is calling on Belgian insurance multinational Ageas to urgently improve relations with the trade unions and respect workers fundamental rights, including to freedom of association and social dialogue.
We are deeply concerned to hear of attacks on and censorship of trade unions in Ageas’ Belgian and British operations. Trade union representatives in Belgium are facing intimidation from the company, which has been blocking union-specific mailboxes and has tried to ban these worker representatives from handing out leaflets in the workplace.
Management has also unilaterally withdrawn from collective negotiations on remote work, trying to force workers to sign up to individual agreements instead.
This comes on top of ever-increasing workloads and working hours, imposed on workers without consultation, and with no compensation for overtime and extra efforts made during the difficult months of the Covid pandemic.
