This week UNI Europa and the European Works Council for Securitas met for its annual meeting with management in Helsinki. Coming from 15 countries, almost thirty representatives from across Europe shared best practice of working in Securitas and importantly highlighted areas where the engagement of staff and quality of work can be improved. The group discussed working more closely with the company around Health & Safety and equality and diversity initiatives, as well as issues concerning digitalisation of the private security industry and leadership development within Securitas.
Marking a new era for the EWC, the group met with incoming Divisional President for Europe, Magnus Ahlqvist. The EWC is optimistic that this will herald a fresh, people-centric approach to the work of Securitas in Europe and their engagement with worker representatives. EWC Chair Istvan Csikasz, from the Swedish Transport Union emphasised that, ‘dialogue between members and with management is key to a successful EWC and we are hopeful that this year has marked another step in the right direction for the group in ensuring information and importantly consultation for employees across Europe.’
Executive Committee member Jacqueline Panneman stressed those simple, but in reality difficult, factors that make for an effective EWC. ‘It’s important that year upon year we work with structure but also with a good spirit in order to achieve better results’ said Jacqueline.
