With this joint action, UNI Europa ICTS and Connect Europe focus on the twin transition and sustainability to explore how social dialogue can help advance the greening of the sector. As a result of this Accelerating Sustainability in Telecom (AST) project, we aim to:
- contribute to the promotion of social dialogue in the telecom sector;
- develope European social dialogue;
- build and strengthen the capacity of national social partners to support the recovery from the Covid crisis;
- achieve the twin transition goals of the EU Commission.
Thrpough this project the cocial partners also aim to understand the potential of new technologies to enable the twin transition in Telecoms, their impact on skills needs and the labour market in the sector, and the role that the social partners can play to help fast track this transition.
The first important step to address sustainability and the digital and green transition is to raise awareness and gain a deeper understanding about the new technologies that will play a key role in the greening of the sector. To this end, our project research analyses the disruptive technologies that have a transformative impact on society in general and that will be relevant for sector innovation in particular. In our research report, we focus on both the sustainability and the social impact of these technologies. The research findings have informed the three project round tables focussing on technology and labour market impact.
Based on the research and the workshop discussions, we have organised a project conference gathering stakeholders and social partners to discuss how social dialogue can accelerate sustainability and digital transformation in the telecommunications sector.
