UNI Europa stands in solidarity with striking workers and unions in Luxembourg

UNI Europa stands in full solidarity with striking workers and our affiliates in Luxembourg – OGBL and LCGB – as they take united strike action on 28 June 2025 to defend workers’ rights, secure fair wages and demand meaningful engagement from employers and the government.

This national strike is not only a response to the failure of negotiations on key collective agreements, but also a powerful expression of workers’ growing frustration over stagnating wages amidst rising living costs, deteriorating working conditions and a lack of recognition for the critical role that workers play in sustaining Luxembourg’s economy.

The strike demonstrates the strength and unity of trade unionism in Luxembourg. It sends a clear and urgent message: workers deserve better. UNI Europa fully supports Luxembourg’s unions’ demands to protect pensions, collective bargaining rights, salaries and purchasing power – which are all under attack by the government and employers.

UNI Europa Finance has already issued a strong statement of solidarity with finance workers in Luxembourg, who are courageously mobilising to defend their sectoral agreements and resist the erosion of hard-won rights. We echo and amplify this call: there must be no weakening of the structures that ensure decent work, fair pay and sectoral equity. The finance sector is a cornerstone of Luxembourg’s economy – it must also be a model of respect for workers.

This national strike is a crucial step in reaffirming the central role of collective bargaining and social dialogue in building a fairer, more just Europe. The entire UNI Europa family stands with the workers taking to the streets and standing firm on the picket lines: you are not alone.
