UNI Europa stands in solidarity with striking airport security workers in Germany

Yesterday night, airport security workers went on a 24-hour strike – called by German services trade union ver.di – at Düsseldorf and Cologne Airport in Germany.

After five rounds of collective bargaining, the employers have not made an adequate offer to increase wages for the approximately 25,000 workers in the industry. To compensate for the loss of purchasing power due to inflation, ver.di is demanding 2.80 euros more pay per hour, higher functional allowances and overtime bonuses from the first hour of overtime with a collective agreement term of 12 months.

The Management Committee of UNI Europa, the European services workers’ union, stands in solidarity with striking airport security workers. We support their trade union ver.di’s legitimate demand for a raise in wages that compensates for the high inflation of the past year. The workers who keep our airports safe deserve nothing less.
