The project is steered jointly between UNI Europa and employer organisations. It aims to elaborate cross-sector EU Guidelines for preventing and combating violence and harassment at work and build capacity between and within European sector social partners’ organisations.

The project received welcome recognition from key EU decision-makers. European Commissioner for Equality Helena Dalli got behind the project..

EU Commissioner: domestic violence = a workplace issue

“Victims cannot but carry their experience with them everywhere they go & will surely be impacted by the violence in their performance at the workplace.” 🙌🏽 Great to have Helena Dalli’s support towards ending violence & harassment at work.

The project activities include six sector-specific roundtables across the sectors, three webinars and one conference gathering key actors (EU Parliament/Commission/ILO/Independent experts).

In addition, sector-specific statements and follow-up actions were adopted. The action is focused on three priorities:

  • Third-party violence
  • Ratification process of ILO Convention 190
  • Tackling domestic violence – Home being the “new workplace”

A mental health survey was also undertaken. Addressed to trade unions and employers who are either jointly or individually involved in preventing gender-based violence and harassment, domestic violence impacting the workplace and third-party violence as part of broader health and safety measures. It aimed to:

  • Evaluate the impact of the pandemic on gender-based violence in the world of work and on female workers,
  • Evaluate the impact of European social dialogue instruments and occupational safety and health legislation and regulations (European and National levels) on the building awareness and tackling violence and harassment affecting women in the world of work,
  • Evaluate psychosocial risk factors of third-party violence and teleworking, especially the impact of “home being the new workplace” including the consequences on mental health/wellbeing.

The final conference took place in October 2023. The cross-sector guidelines, that have been elaborated on the basis of the inputs of the sector workshops, were presented and signed by UNI Europa and its social partners.
