Over three hundred trade unionists are ready for the 5th UNI Europa Women’s Conference in Rome on 13 March. The theme of the Women’s conference is Women at the Heart of Change. It is designed to shed light on a rapidly changing Europe and to focus the discussion on how services unions and women need to be part of shaping these changes for the benefit of workers across Europe.
European unions can take can pride in being the motor behind creating a just, inclusive and social Europe. They need women at their centre in order to be able to adapt to the changes the continent is undergoing. The 5th UNI Europa Women’s Conference aims at being a driving force to create a new Europe – one with job security and quality employment, high union density, and respect for women workers’ rights and trade unions.
The one-day meeting in Rome will discuss the strategic priorities for 2016-2020 in the region and adopt resolutions on the key themes:
- Women at the heart of change by growing unions: Mentoring Program
- Women at the heart of change by growing bargaining power: Equal Pay
- Women at the heart of change by growing quality jobs: Maternity Leave Directive, Violence against women
The conference will also adopt an emergency motion on the refugee crisis in light of the suffering of millions of people fleeing conflict, famine and natural disasters.
Another strong emphasis will be put on youth, with the adoption of an amendment to the UNI Europa Women’s Rules in order to provide an additional seat for a youth member.
