This week, UNI Europa Regional Secretary, Oliver Roethig, celebrated the centenary of ALEBA, the largest trade union in Luxembourg’s financial sector.
At an event, also attended by Luxembourg’s Prime Minister, the Minister for work, employment, social economy and solidarity, over 300 committed trade unionists came together to appreciate ALEBA’s work over the past 100 years.
Mr Roethig championed ALEBA’s work in the financial sector’s collective bargaining successes and improving the lives of workers.
“It was a great honour to celebrate the centenary of ALEBA and all that they have achieved over the past 100 years,” stated Mr Roethig. “Trade unions are a solid rock for democracy and we have served to improve the working and living conditions of workers and their families.”
“However, we can’t stand idle as our achievements are constantly challenged. We must still cope with the financial crisis and digitalisation is mounting pressure on finance jobs.”
“We must continue to fight for a fair and social Europe with secure and quality employment, and ironclad respect for workers’ rights and trade unions.”
All at UNI Europa, and UNI Global Union, wish ALEBA all the very best for the next 100 years of much needed trade union activity.< Previous postNext post >
